EMPLOYMENT RESOURCE GUIDE

The Work Zone offers services to employers of the Nechako Valley and Fraser Lake Regions.  We can help you with your hiring and staff retention needs. We post job vacancies on our job board free of charge and provide job seekers with additional Labour Market Information.  We can also help you develop an employment training plan for your current staff or new hires.   The Work Zone has a database of potential employees for you to access.  We are here to be a bridge between your workforce needs and success in the marketplace. The following programs are available to YOU, the EMPLOYER.  Information can be accessed online or by connecting with THE WORK ZONE. Please check with us before you hire.

Wage Subsidies

are temporary and are intended to assist and compensate employers during the new staff training regimen as we all know that productivity in the workplace many times goes down while a new hire is learning the ropes.

Training Subsidies

are temporary and are intended to assist and compensate the employee to attain new skills in order to benefit the employer.

Legend

EI Criteria
A person must currently be on EI or had an EI claim or tried to establish a claim in the last 3 years

Non EI Criteria
Somebody who has never been on EI or established an EI claim.

Targeted Wage Subsidy (TWS)

helps individuals who are experiencing difficulty finding work, primarily due to a lack of work experience, by providing temporary wage subsidies to assist employers to hire and give them relevant work experience  on the job.  The subsidy is intended to assist and lead towards permanent employment.

Canada's Economic Action Plan

provides more resources for EI benefits to support those who have lost their jobs and providing the training required to help Canadians get the additional skills they need for the jobs of tomorrow and to get back to work. This includes providing additional benefits to long-tenured workers. The Government has also enacted measures to provide additional support for the self-employed.

Aboriginal Employment Gateway

  • Prepare the aboriginal labour force to meet the “demand” for skilled workers in all sectors of the labour market
  • Enter into innovative partnerships so employers have access to the “supply” of trained workers
  • Collaborate with employers to establish recruitment, retention and advancement strategies for Aboriginal employees.

Trades

  • To create opportunities to increase aboriginal representation in trades
  • To increase partnerships by engaging industry in strategic dialogue
  • To build a skilled aboriginal labour force by providing multi-dimensional support.

Workplace Training for Innovation Program

is designed to provide eligible small businesses (less than 50 employees) with funding for employee training in order to:
  • Improve productivity
  • Support the introduction of new technology, machinery/equipment or work processes
  • Enhance international competitiveness
  • Introduce innovative training and workplace strategies to increase the long-term competiveness of the organization and its workforce.

Skill Connect for Immigrants

Provides:
  • assessments for language, qualifications and training requirements
  • an introduction to Canadian workplace culture
  • training funds for language, upgrading or job specific skills training
  • assistance with regulating bodies or certification
  • networking and help finding employment opportunities.

Forestry Labour Force Development Program

is a program that assists unemployed forestry workers to develop and enhance their skills in harvesting, human resource and business practices and business innovation developments to aid in their return to the forest industry in the future.

Labour Market Partnership

is a project that encourages and supports employers, employee and/or employer associations and communities in developing and implementing strategies for dealing with labour force adjustments and meeting human resource requirements. Funding may be provided to cover overhead costs such as wages and employment costs, research or technical studies, and other related costs and eligible expenses negotiated with program officials.

Employer Sponsored Training

is an initiative to help employers avoid laying people off as a result of changes in their workplace.
Eligible employers are employers in one of the following circumstances:

  • Reduced business activity
  • Significant changes in market conditions
  • New legislative or regulatory requirements for workers.

Assessing – Planning -Training (APT)

is a program for forest related workers who are currently working more than 20 hours per week and those unemployed workers who are not eligible for EI.  There is a possibility of training dollars for your employees.

Community Development Trust

The Tuition Assistance Program helps laid-off forest workers improve their future employability.  Those interested in careers in other sectors can gain the skills and qualifications they need to achieve their goals.

Targeted Initiative for Older Workers

is a program that provides temporary wage subsidies to employers for hiring older workers aged 55 to 64 who are unemployed.  This program helps those workers who require new or enhanced skills to successfully transition into new employment.

is designed to support projects, creating jobs that will provide unemployed, insured participants with opportunities to gain meaningful work experience.

Opportunities Fund for Persons with Disabilities

is a program meant to assist persons with disabilities who are experiencing difficulty finding work.  This program provides a temporary wage subsidy to assist employers to hire persons with disabilities.    Other supportive options (such as possible transportation, mobility aids, visual aids etc.) may be explored with the Program Coordinator to aid in employment success and staff retention.
